Nortel suffered another bad home defeat, this time at the hands of Drumaness in the first round of the Border Cup.
As has been that case in three of the first four games the home sides confidence took an early knock when they found themselves a goal behind in the opening minute of the game.
A needlessly conceded free kick on the edge of the box saw the ball whipped in with the Nortel defenders caught off guard allowing the Drumaness forward the simple task of slipping the ball past McMahon.
The home side almost drew level on 10 minutes when a McMinn effort deceived the keeper only for the post to come to his rescue with the ball conveniently coming back into his arms.
On 17 minutes the away side doubled their lead when poor defending allowed the Drumaness number 9 the opportunity to curl his shot high into the far corner of the net.
With Nortel heads down Drumaness took full advantage to add a further two goals before the half time break.
Half time 0-4
Nortel came out in the second half with a bit more purpose and for the first twenty minutes dominated play without having the cutting edge to reduce the arrears.
Drumaness however killed the game on 67 minutes when another silly mistake in losing possession left the away forward the simple task of rounding McMahon for number five.
Goals six and seven followed shortly after with a devastated Nortel side looking for the referees final whistle.
A difficult period for new manager Craig McMahon as he tries to rebuild, with every individual mistake seemingly being punished with a goal, but all at Nortel are confident that with continued hard work the team will see improvements in the league campaign.
